I ACCEPTED OFFER WITH CGH -- GAVE NOTICE AT APEX/NG/COPS/DOJ 12-21-2004

Back in November my manager Alonzo informed me that I was getting laid off at the end of January. Well, he didn't actually tell me directly, he informed, Apex, the recruiting firm that employs me, and they told me. Kind of annoying considering that I work about twenty feet from Alonzo and see him several times a day. You'd think he could tell me to my face, huh? Oh, well, the upside was that I had plenty of notice to look for a new job.

After umpteen interviews at all sorts of companies, I have accepted an offer with an outfit called CGH, also in the downtown area. I stary January 3rd. And it is a very nice feeling to have all this taken care of before the holidays. I will post more christmas stuff later on.

DR. SEUSS REVEALED 12-21-2004

Last night was a study night so I got home after 9. PJ was still awake so I stuck my head in.

"Daddy, can you read me a story?" He asked.

Sure, why not, I thought to myself. Little did I know I was dealing with the STALL-MASTER!

"Oh, the places you will go!" I started to read. One of my favorites, a Dr. Seuss classic.

"Daddy, what places will I go to?" PJ asked. I ansered as best I could, and continued.

"What's a flugal horn?"

"I don't know exactly, its an instrument like a tuba."

"What's a boom band?"

"Well, its, look, its a Dr. Seuss book okay?"

"Why is the grass blue"

"What is that animal?"

"How can he pull that thing all by himself."

"I DON'T KNOW. LOOK, I'M NOT BUDDHA! ITS A CHILDREN'S BOOK! ITS LATE AND I JUST, I JUST--PLEASE JUST LET ME READ IT TO YOU! OK?."

"Okay." He sounds dissapointed. I immediately feel guilty. After what seems like forty minutes I finish reading and leave the room, with none of Mr. Gueisel's secrets left unrevealed.

ANNA NEEDS VERIFICATION -- 12.20.2004

ANNA NEEDS VERIFICATION -- 12.20.2004

Christmas approaches and all through the house, there's a stressing
and a yellin' that would scare off a mouse. This has been a busy
month. Between studying for my exam, and looking for a job, and all
the holiday activity. Very busy.

Tons of stuff going on too. My job search may have ended, I'll have
confirmation tonight. We spent the weekend laying about the house.
It was very relaxing. Built a nice warm fire and listened to the wind
blow. We were going to watch a video Friday night, but then Kath
ended up sleeping in the lazy-boy while I studied for my latest
Microsoft Certification on the laptop.

PJ spent the week at the 'Cow House with Gagi'. He had a great time,
and really like to put on his cowboy boots and go watch the cow
auctions. He also was fascinated by how they checked to see if a cow
was pregnant or not. It involved putting on shoulder length rubber
gloves. Better than the discovery channel! PJ also managed to single
handedly reprogram Ed and Rita's tv and Satelite receiver, to the
point where a repairman had to be called in. He's a button pusher,
that one.

Anna has started to make a very noticable gesture, whenever I am
talking to her. You see, I have no credibility with my children,
because I tell stories, jokes, and generally exaggerate things. So
when I am speaking with Anna, often she'll look past me at Kathleen,
looking for a nod, a shake, or a shrug. Then she knows whether or not
to take me seriously. So I'll start with something like, "Anna, when
I was your age I lived in a book of matches in the middle of an eight
lane freeway, and I was happy to have that. You need to be more
grateful for that creamed broccoli you have on your plate there. I
once went for two years with nothing more than a bowl of hot steam.
And I was grateful for that steam too. We didn't complain back in
those days."

Then the look. Then Kathleen shakes her head, usually when I can't
see, a subtle gesture. Its only then I get the smile. "Daddy, I know
you're just JOKING me." She says, grinning.

TOOTH FAIRY SLIPS UP! 12-10-2004

We got a babysitter and went out to see a movie. "Ocean's 12" it was great mindless fun. And then we got home late. And forgot all about the tooth Anna had lost that day and carefully placed under her pillow.

The next morning, Anna comes and jumps into bed with us around 6:30AM and said "Mom! The tooth fairy didn't come!" She was very concerned.

"Its okay" Kathleen mumbled, still in a daze. "She gets really busy this time of year. She'll come tomorrow."

No one knows what exatly caused this dereliction of duty, but the tooth fairy did indeed show the following night, and left both a silver and paper dollar. And all is well in the kingdom once again.

PJ KNOWS POKEMON - 12-8-2004

PJ rented the video game Pokemon Stadium this weekend. A pretty complex game for a four year old, and he pretty much holed up in the basement and played it as much as we would let him all weekend. He's the low maintenance child, at least for now. All he wants to do is eat junk food and play video games. I wonder where he gets such poor habits from. Oh, yeah, I remember now. Its from me. :^)

The game has all these menus, with written choices. Like 'press A to attack, B to defend, etc." Also, there are all these different Pokemon names you sort of need to know. I watched him play. He spelled out the name aloud "C-H-A-R-M-A-N-D-E-R", the game spoke aloud "Pokemon Charmander enters the stadium."

I'm thinking to myself, "He's teaching himself to read by himself playing video games?" I suddenly felt both proud and guilty. Proud, at PJ for figuring this out on his own. Guilty, for not being there to teach him, for him having to learn this on his own. I went back upstairs and left him in his little bean bag chair playing his game, in awe of how those little wheels in his head can turn, with or without our help.

PJ'S THREE FAVORITES - THANKSGIVING 2004

At pjs thanksgiving festival at his pre-school, he chose the indian name of hopping frog. He made a collage, and put on it a list of things to be thankful for. He wrote.

1.) MY FAMILY
2.) TREES
3.) CANDY

I'm just grateful we beat out the candy. Hopping frog must like us.

this is a test-- this is only a test

I am trying out this expirimental new feature. I can now post (if this works) by sending an email to a particular secret address.

What this means is that I can thrill you all with all the thrilling antics I am dealing with at work. For instance:

Today I sent out an email to change control board informing them that CR2081 was now ready for user test on machine TRAIN32.

Wow! It sort of makes your heart beat a little bit faster, doesn't it? Yes, this is my life. And now I can post on my web page by sending email (it this works). We've all gotten just a little bit closer to the future, and nothing's changed much.

ANNA AND KATHLEEN GO TO NYC TO SEEE LION KING 11-22-2004

My wife and my daughter went to the big apple and saw a
Broadway show, the statue of Liberty, and of course, the Hershey Store. All those things that makes Manhatten famous. I'd like to write more on this but I wasn't there. Instead I was hanging with the boys. We all had the flu and basically got sick a lot. Not a pretty story. Anyhoo-- here are just a few pics.
